Retail Therapy 2 @ Book Xcess

Sometime ago I wrote about persuading hubby to visit this unknown bookstore (to me then) that I just found out about. Well, as you can see from the pic that I got him to drive me there, purchased several books and this store has now become my favourite bookstore in the entire country. All books are cheaper than anywhere plus these are all new books (not used) not did I mind before. How fabulous!! If not for the fact that I've gone to another book sale earleir (and feeling guilty of not reading them yet) I would have a shopping spree day. But the beauty of it, I dont have to wait for booksale and these books are going to remain cheap at all time, isnt it? So I can come back any time later. Gosh, I'm salivating just thinking about the store and all the books in it. Place is call Book Xcess at Amcorp Mall, PJ. I bragged about it in the office and 2 colleagues checked it out and agreed with me.

Now, if only I can get myself to drive there on my own.

Retail therapy

I was happily browsing through the books at last week's books sale when I felt a light tap on my shoulder. It was my husband. Do you think these are any good? He was showing me two non-fiction titles which he intended to buy and hopefully read :) I had to surpress my laughter when I saw one of the book. Why he said? This one referring to 'How to Win Any Argument' by Robert Mayer is fine but that one 'The 360 Leader' by John C. Maxwell ... I bought that for you in the last book sale along with 'What Made Jack Welch' by Stephen H. Baum but you still hadnt read any of it. Really? Are you sure? he said. Umm hmmp I said. Okay so I just buy one then, he concluded.
Whenever I feel the need to read a non-fiction, I just look at the many distinguish and expensive titles that my hubby had ... but very seldom read, and pick one from there :))

As for the recent sale, I bought 5 books which I'm looking forward to read.

Favourite past time or plain greed?

2 weeks before Ramadhan started, I managed to persuade hubby to check out a book sale. He reluctantly agreed with spesific warning that I adhere to to the time limit of 1.5 hours. Okaayyy ... I agreed too eagerly which didnt convinced him which lead to another round of lecture in the car as we were making our way there. He knew me too well.
When it comes to books ... his wife can turn into a monster that lose all sense of time, care, even responsibility to her own family !!! tsk!tsk!
On another thought, being a reading and entertaining monster sure could count for something? Isnt it? Hi! hi!
But I'm happy to report that yes I adhered to my time limit and now I'm a proud owner of 8 more new/old books and that gives me a total of 18 books in my to read list. Hmm ... no wonder greed is listed as one of the deadly sins.
ps/ Kak lin, I have Frank McCourt 3rd book (I can lend it to you) and Kerry, I bought Anne Rice ...

Shoeaholic

I have a weakness for shoes. It runs in the family. My mother used to have dozens of shoes during her heyday. When I was very little about 6 years old, I used to wear her oversize shoes on my small feet and paraded around the house. Clip-clop, clip-clop I went. I stopped doing so in my teen years bcos my feet size becomes bigger than my mom’s. She has all kinds of shoes in techno colors to match her (again) dozen of handbags. And my mother loves high heels. That runs in her family!! Both my late aunties plus the ones whom are still around love their heels. I started wearing one when I was about 25 or so and don’t quite fancy it. But the older women in my side of the family can run all over Singapore town shopping - in high heels.

I bought another pair of shoes again yesterday. All in all for the pass two months of 2008 I’ve already bought 6 pairs. But as you can see, mine are not Jimmy Choos nor Manolo Blahniks. No don't worry, I'm way out from Carrie Bradshaw (Sex in the City) league. Mine are the non expensive ones. As long as it looks and feel good on my feet, I buy. But I don’t think I can buy expensive shoes for myself all the time. Most of my expensive possessions handbag or purse was bought by my husband bcos he knows I’m such a cheapskate –especially when it comes to buying stuffs for me self.

Since most of them are not costly shoes so I don’t feel that guilty in buying them. The only time I felt guilty is when I see them piling on top of each other bcos there isn’t much space in my house to store them and come to think of it, some shoes I only wore about 3 times before I completely forget about their existence. Okay now I feel guilty.

Of all the valuable traits in my mother’s gene, I inherit this. Why not the ability to cook? Or to decorate the house or even sewing? My mom is champion in all this. Yeah, how convenient to blame mother dearest for this, he! he!

And my mother loves perfume too. Unfortunately, so do I …

That will be in another confession.

Little black dress

I received an invitation to attend an award ceremony event on behalf of the company where I work. Only to realize that I don’t have any formal black dress to wear to the occasion (dress code was formal black and white).
So I went to look for one. In the fitting room, I had 4 different pieces to try when another reality hit me. My little black dress is no longer little; I had to try a size L in order for it to fit me nicely. There’s this one outfit which fit me oh very snugly but after admiring myself in the mirror, I’ve decided nope this is not the one but to my horror - I can’t take it off!!! It was so tight that I can’t get my arms off the sleeves unless I rip it off - which of cos was not an option. Come to think of it now, I must looked comical then with arms in mid air trying to get the dress off me, but it didn’t felt remotely funny when it happened. I don’t know how many times I told myself not to panic. It took me almost 20 minutes of sweat and close to tears when my maneuver finally paid off. Phew! Okay no more in denial, size L from now on. Close to 1hour in the same shop, I finally found and bought my black dress.

We won 10 awards last night!! So it sort of justify all my effort of buying (not to forget got stuck in one) a black outfit just for the said occasion.

My 2nd pair this month

I bought this yesterday. Right after my birthday lunch treat. 2 weeks ago, I bought a pair which was also white (actually it was my husband who reminded me that!!) But I cant resist this one. It was on sale!! ^_^

I once read a theory that say not to shop when you are hungry bcos you will then tend to shop more. But this was not the case for me. I was full, in fact too full but I still can't resist the temptation. I guess it takes more than an empty stomach to stop a 'shoeholic' person like me, if such word ever exist. But I'm not too bad actually.. bcos I only go berserk if the bargain is just too crazy to ignore. Just like yesterday's

Just look at it. Isn't it gorgeous? Check out the heel (wicked, wicked smile). I plan to wear it tomorrow. Guess I'll be 2 and half inches taller in the office. He!He!
