Farewell Michael Jackson 1958/2009

I first received the text at 06:30am. Michael Jackson died. Is this some kind of a sick joke? Then the next one at 07:40am. I've got no time to check the facts. Went into the car. It was all over the radio. HitzFM Djs were receiving calls from listeners that caused me to choke with tears on my way to work. At a traffic light, I quickly grab a tissue. Gosh, I was in a mess. Memories of my first encounter with the name Michael Jackson when a cousin's family who was living in the States for 11 years came back. His 8 year old son ( my second cousin) showed me (then 12 years old) - MJ album. Who's he? I asked. My question was answered later that year when he won several Grammy awards for Beat It. Ooo.. so he's Michael Jackson.
I sang the song Ben (by MJ) at a school gathering when I was 14.
In 1996, hubby (back then boyfriend)and me went to watch Michael History Tour Concert in KL. We pushed our way to secure tickets at Hard Rock Cafe KL on weekdays bcos it's almost sold out everywhere else. I knew then, that was going to be my first and last 'live' encounter with MJ.

The office was at a sombre mood. Some in the know. While some had just heard in the elevator. I quickly switched to CNN. Everywhere around me preparation was being made by channel reps to change TV schedule for at least the next day in order to pay tribute to the King of Pop. I went into the meeting room with an exclamation remark 'Are we still gonna have this meeting? I'm mourning here! ' I meant it as a joke. And when I honestly dont have any contribution towards around the table questions my VP remarked 'I think we have to kill another Superstar next week' (just to get my mouth shut). Mean boss.

I like the song below. Hope you do too.

RIP MJ

Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer

When you love the one who was killing you, it left you no options. How could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give your beloved, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved? Preface

I know it's inevitable. Sooner or later I would finish reading the book and it happened too soon. Last Sunday I reached 'the end' of its 756 pages. I kept going like 'oh gosh, 8 more chapters to go, 4 more, oh I should stop now and continue tomorrow etc. But it didnt happened. I continued to read. Danish my eldest son cheered me all the way (literally), my hubby shook his head while gave comment like for the life of me, I would never finish a book as thick as that even if you gave me two years to read. All were fast asleep when I finally put the book down.

More than my own life - Bella Swan

I cried. Twice. Once on page 682 and second when the above words were uttered. I'm not too sure whether I was really moved by the story or what's happening to the characters that I've grown to love or was it bcos I know 'the end' is approaching and there will be no book 5 in the series. I do enjoyed the book but I must say Eclipse (3rd book of the saga) is still my favourite.

So here's sayonara to the Twilight saga books. Its 2nd and 3rd movie will be out in Nov 09 and 2010 respectively. Until then.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

"If he does not come to me then, I shall give him up forever." Elizabeth Bennet
I thought I've read P&P before. But I thought wrong! The more pages I turned, the more I realised that I dont know the story line. How could this be? I must have confused myself with a different author or book.

"It taught me to hope". Mr Darcy

The 298pages really testing me. Not because it was not interesting but because the old english words used were hard to digest by my (usually) sleepy gray matter. The purpose of me picking up the book in the first place was bcos I thought I need to dilute my thoughts from the haunting vampire tales I've been reading all this while. P&P became one of the choice when I saw a movie on Jane Austen book club and the tentative choice became evident when there was a line in Twilight book where the book was mentioned. And I took that as a sign :p

Its not easy to find an old classic title for sale. So I had to settle with a reproduction ... and it's cheaper.

Warning spoiler ahead.
'Dear Sir,
I must trouble you once more for congratulations. Elizabeth will soon be the wife of Mr Darcy. Console Lady Catherine as well as you can. But, if I were you, I would stand by the nephew; he has more to give. Yours sincerely, etc.' Mr. Bennett

I laughed so hard (after reading the above). It felt good after many pages of frustration!! I mean on my part. I really cannot comprehend and tolerate on why people on those days just cant say what they really mean. They keep hiding behind their flowery words. Urrgg .. its so frustrating to read.

So now I'm done with the so-called diversion, it's now time to return to my real obsession. I've just started reading the 4th book on Twilight saga last night and I've reached quarter of the book's 754pages.

For my own sanity I need, no I must so down. But I know that would be impossible. With weekend just around the corner, I can tell that most of my time will be devoted to Edward Cullen ..err I mean the book ^_^

Melaka - birds eye view -part 2

We took a ride on the 360 revolving tower called Menara Taming Sari when we were in Melaka recently. This is the view from the sky. Enjoy!

Took me me awhile to edit this. Too many distractions. :P I'll tell in the next post.

Visit to Malacca

A week ago both hubby and me took two days off. It was a school break but we dont have any definite plan of where to bring the kids. On Sunday afternoon after several attempts to make last minute hotel reservation to several hotels, we finally found one in Malacca. The last time we went to the historical state for touristy visit was in 2007. So it had been 2 years.
Weather was hot. We skipped places we've been before like the St. Paul Hill and the ride on those decorated trishaws. Went to several museums where I had to be the tour guide and was horrified to find out that my sons were clueless on who was Paremeswara or had any idea about Hang Tuah etc. So that afternoon, they also learnt about Afonso de Albuquerque (Portugese conqueror) - not just Cristiano Ronaldo (hmm), the Dutch and also British who came to Malacca.
At night, after a thorough guide thru the phone from hubby's friend who himself stuck in a jam on the North-South Highway driving from Perak to Melaka - we found a seafood place where my husband been before with the said friend. Sweet sour crab, grilled stingray & prawns, nasi lemak and drinks of 4pax costed us only RM60 after a RM7 discount. It couldn't get any more delicious :) Below are some of our pics.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

I’m the world’s best predator, aren’t I? Everything about me invites you in — my voice, my face, even my smell. As if I need any of that! Edward Cullen

I finished reading Twilight, a few days ago. Friday to be exact. It gave me a better pespective of the movie but nevertheless I'm glad that I saw the movie first which I must confessed that convert me to the book series fan. So am I gonna be biased about the book? Yes, I am :)

Stupid, shiny Volvo owner Bella Swan

My hubby watched the Twilight dvd ... finally. This morning while we were out running errand across town he saw a C30 Volvo and exclaimed 'hey, that's the car that vampire (what's his name?)in the movie was driving'. Of all the exciting scenes (for me)in the movie, my hubby only remembered the car Edward was driving.

And so the lion fell in love with the lamb…
What a stupid lamb.
What a sick, masochistic lion.
Edward and Bella

That has got to be my favourite quote from the book. I've got to detox myself from all this obsession of the book. So I'm currently reading Pride & Prejudice. Ha!Ha! yes the very same one I think I read many years ago during school. Don't ask me why. Trust me I'm having a tough time following its dialogue/conversation. It wasnt that hard before. Why o why am I torturing myself? My eldest son was confused and surprised when he learnt that I'm not reading Twilight serie 4 - Breaking Dawn. Told him, I'm not ready yet. Which of cos, confused him more.

You’re as white as a ghost — no, you’re as white as me! Edward Cullen

Giving in to temptation

Kak Lin brought the Twilight book for me as promised (after I text to remind her while she was packing and after she replied and calling me dracula fan ^_^). So I'm reading that now (savouring each precious page) and mentally comparing notes with the movie.
And on top of that, yesss... I got myself the 4th book in the series. But I'm not reading it just yet. Saving the best for last. My husband's 14 year old nephew Amil said that his friend (maybe girlfriend) put off reading the last book until the very end bcos after that there will be no more continuation of the book. I told him that's exactly how I felt too!!! (same as a 14 year old ha!ha! :))) So at present, I have all 4 books in my collection. One have to return back after finish. But I will get one for my own to complete the collection.
Not a good week for me in terms of my chaotic mind (a lot of siblings-family issue to deal with) but I refuse to dwell on it here. Hubby has been a great support to my spiral downwards spirit. So these books are definitely my saviour.
Below is the trailer for the up and coming New Moon movie based from the second book of the Twilight series. I can't waitttt....enjoy the clip!
ps/ I'm on Edward's team yeahh

The red affair

Last Sunday night we went to a relative's wedding. Reached the hotel we got to know that the wedding theme was red (judging by the deco). Coincidently I was wearing red too for the event. The last pic shows bouquet and bouquet of real red roses imported from China.
