Trying to keep up

Went to a wrap party for one of the show we produced. This is the show's 6th season but this is the first time I went for its party mainly bcos I already ran out of excuses, not to go. It was held at this club called Raw Bar in Solaris Mont Kiara. Since I don't go clubbing (left the clubbing scene ages ago), therefore not tune to the what and where is the latest happening place to be and to be seen so finding this club was a tough one. Clubs in KL are like chipsmore biscuit, now you see it, next 3 months you don't. Anyways after parking the car at a bright lit and fairly safe place, I continue on foot to find the place. This was after I've been circulating around the area in my car twice. I saw two security guards, turned out to be Nepalese and speak limited English with this huge German Shepherd dog. Anyway they helped showed me the way. Later I found out, quite a number of us seek the help of these 2 guards to find the way to the club.

Three hours and 4 glasses of sprite mix with lemon later, I headed home at 11:45pm. I'm one of the earliest who left the party and found that my voice was hoarse (from shouting to talk) and my ears were ringing due to the loud music. I am getting old for all this.

Kung Fu Panda

'There is no price for awesomeness' ... so said the panda.

This is a good movie for kids and adults alike. Its like Kungfu Hustle but much much cuter. Where the unassuming becomes the hero. It teaches you that your future depends on YOU. Not by some magic, good luck charm or secret omen that will release an ancient super power that can transform you to become somebody else. The same old ingredients are required to be successful - never give up, practise makes perfect, have dreams and believe in yourself. You don't get to hear much of the cast voice like Angelina Jolie (Tigress) or even Jackie Chan (Monkey). Most of the time its Jack Black aka Po the Panda and Dustin Hoffman (Shifu) and I like the wise Oogway (Turtle) too. But the Panda is soooo adorable!! It was indeed 'pandamonium' !!! and by the way the 'Everybody likes Kungfu Fightin' song at the end of the movie is sang by Rain. Not his best performance but still, he gets to sing it ^_^

Golden eye

It's Monday and I'm on MC. It's my eye. My left eye to be precise.

The discomfort started on Sunday. We took the children out to watch Kungfu Panda. It was our second attempt bcos we did go on Saturday evening but tickets were sold out. So we bought in advance for Sunday show at noon. On our way in the car, I found the sun too glaring and my eyes were painful. I thought it was bcos I had a late night on Friday and my head haven't fully recovered, but that was 2 nites ago!! Hmmm.. anyways my eyes condition didn't improve when I went out again in the afternoon to get my hair cut. Every time I hit the outdoor, a sharp pain hit my eyes and I had to close my eyes. That does it, maybe I am really lack of sleep, I thought. I took the eye drops and sleep. Woke up at 7pm with tears blinding me. I knew something was up. Either it's an eye infection or I had accidentally hurt it bcos it does felt like a scratch somewhere in the eye.

Woke up this morning with the same symptom. The left eye was not that red to be the usual conjunctivitis but instead it was a bit swollen, painful especially when expose to light, any light and tears are pouring from it. I had to patch it with tissue, like a pirate. GP confirmed I had a foreign particle in my left eye and referred me to an opthamologist. 2 hrs later, at a specialist center the eye expert said I have a corneal ulcer which may be due by a viral infection caused maybe by my disposable contact lenses. Bummer!

My hubby took half day emergency leave bcos he needs to drive me around. I cant wear my contact lenses, I cant wear my glasses either in the car bcos the sunlight hurt so much, so I wear my dark sunglasses which has no power with the left eye covered with tissue to ensure that it's close bcos it hurt so much. That left me with one blur right eye to depend on.

Doctor prescribed me with 2 types of antibiotic drops to be use alternately every 2 hours and eye drops. She wants to see me again on Wed afternoon and gave me 3 days MC which I reduced to 2 days. I figure I'll go to work on Wed and take half day leave for the appointment.

So what can I do? I'm tired of sleeping. Neither can I read too long bcos it strain the eye nor watch TV more than an hour and I have to log off soon from this laptop bcos it's almost an hour now. I already run out of options.

So moral of the story, take care of your precious eyes.

I need to wait for the sun to set before I can drive my sun to his tuition afterwards.

Thursdays at Eight - Debbie Macomber

Epiphany, yes sure whatever.
Thought I entitle this entry just that but I changed it. I went for a one day training on introduction to project management last Tuesday and there was where the word epiphany first cropped up. I don't really sure of the word but I let it passed bcos after the Q&A between a participant and the trainer, I sort of guess the meaning of it. I was reading Thursday at Eight and for the second time this week the word epiphany surfaced again. This must be the word of the week for me.

I like Thursday at Eight. It's about 4 women aged twenty to fifty something. Their triumph and despair, cheating spouse, dying ex-husband, unexpected pregnancy, rebellious teen children, know it all mother, perfect other sister, a younger suitor with a reputation and their weekly breakfast meeting on Thursday. Amongst all, my favourite is Liz (the fifty something) especially when she has a dashing younger pediatrician pursuing her and she couldn't care less (at first of cos'). There are like the Sex and the City gals minus the flashy fashion and sexiness.

And oh yeah, epiphany means an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure b: a revealing scene or moment (Merriam Webster Online Dictionary)

Smoke gets in your eyes - The Platters

I've been neglecting my blog :( *sigh* Unintentionally I must add.
Every night I had to choose between reading my book or net surfing (or update blog) so I choose the latter one. Well, actually I chose to do both but everytime I start reading I can't help but to go ... just one more page... or maybe one more ... and for all you know it's already 1:00am and time to hit the pillow. So that's my excuse this week. The accuse book? Well, that of cos will be the subject of another entry.

Few nights ago, I watch an old movie on telly entitled 'Always' (well, maybe not that old) starring Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter. This song was in it and as a result, I found myself humming the Platter song almost whole day at work!!

So here's to pass the curse lol, hope you enjoy this old but gold melody. I'm going back to my book. Nighty night.

Angela's Ashes - A Memoir by Frank Mc Court

'Worse than the ordinary miserable childhood is the miserable Irish childhood, and worse yet is the miserable Irish Catholic childhood'

and the story begins. This is the most depressing ... (I must stress on the word depressing bcos it really was) but at the same time most funniest, book I have ever read. I never thought such combination is possible but yet Frank McCourt was able to pull it brilliantly in his memoir. Most of the time, I don't know whether to cry or to laugh and at the end I did both (which made me looked pretty ridiculous). It helps when hubby is away in a far away country like Spain therefore no one can witness my pathetic display of emotion (which he is sooo used to :)

(at 10 years old) 'Priests and Masters told us that Confirmation means you are a true soldier of the Church and that entitles you to die and be a martyr in case we're invaded by enemies of the Church. More dying. I want to tell them I wont be able to die for the Faith because I'm already booked to die for Ireland'

The story is from the perspective of a very young boy as young as 2 years old till he was about 18 years of age. Emotion is very, very raw and honest. I love the simplicity and pureness of this boy and his brothers, both in their actions and thoughts. We all have been there before. Being kids. So that's why I guess, this book really strike a chord at me. And on top of it all, these kids were really, really poor in the merciless cold and wet climate of Ireland. So they were constantly hungry and stayed hungry. Which was very sad. Whilst I constantly in battle to force my boys to eat!!!

'The next Saturday there's no telegram (from Dad)nor the Saturday after nor any Saturday forever. Mam begs again at the St Vincent de Paul Society ... and smiles when (other people) have their bit of a joke about Dad having a tart in Piccadilly. Michael (4 year old brother) wants to know what a tart is and she tells him it's something you have with tea.' note: to laugh or cry?

'We have no money for a proper ball (to play soccer) so one of the boys brings a sheep's bladder stuffed with rags'.

Food was very scarce for them. So they were very appreciative of any little that come their way (usually in a form of bread crumb and even cooking grease that stuck on the newspaper!!)

Most of the time I found myself flipping to the back page to see the author's picture - trying to make the sense of it all especially when the accounts become too horrific for a boy to endure ... but he did and survived to tell it all.

I'm sooo glad I found this book. It showed and proved the power of human spirit and we are after all only human. It is indeed a gem. 5 stars from me. I learned that there is a continuation of this memoir called 'Tis, hope I can find it.

and I'm very grateful and thankful for every bite of food, I have.

p/s did I tell you that this book is also the winner of the pulitzer prize? Awesome isnt it?

Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian

The boys and I went to watch Narnia -Prince Caspian last Wednesday night. I'm a single parent since last Monday till next Thursday since hubby is lucky to get to go to Spain for his company trip.
And boy did I chose the right night to go ... there was traffic jam everywhere!! The Government made an announcement in the afternoon on the new petrol hike from RM1.92/liter to RM2.70/liter. Everyone was rushing back from the office in the pouring thunderstorm to fill their car tanks with petrol before the new price starts the next day (although I don't quite comprehend the logic of it - the petrol is not gonna last that long anyway!).
On my way back from work, I was caught in a jam caused by flash flood and on the way to the movies the jam was caused by overflow of vehicles queuing at petrol stations everywhere.
Back to the movie Narnia, all the kids Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy have grown up. The movie is much darker than the first. With little bit elements from Harry Porter and LOTR... plus familiar character like Aslan (the Lion), White Witch (small scene) plus many, many new adorable characters ie. the swash buckling mouse and the scholar beaver and of cos' Prince Caspian, aww..so cute!!! It was a long movie about 2 and half hours.
My youngest son was fast asleep when the movie was over. It was 11:30pm when we left the theatre and on the road, people are still queuing at the petrol stations.

Pangkor Trip - Final

This will be the final episode on our Pangkor Trip.

We suppose to take the small boat ride from Lumut Jetty to my parent's place in Damar Laut. However, the usual boat was not operational at 1:10pm in the afternoon due to lack of passengers. But lucky for us a fishing boat was on its way to somewhere and willing to take us across with the same fee. So as a result, we have fish containers as our seats!! Nevertheless it was quite an enjoyable ride whereby at one point my hubby did the famous take "I'm the king of the world!!" Since there was no one else on the boat except us and the driver.

Templar Legacy by Steve Berry

I finally managed to finish this book during the Pangkor trip. What an agony! I sooo don't enjoy it. I thought it will be like Dan Brown's but it was a far cry. Somehow the action wasn't convincing and I don't buy any of it. Not until page 247 that the story started to pick up its pace (for me) and I had 240 pages more to go, aarrrghh. This is the second book I read from Mr. Berry, guess I won't venture anywhere near the same author again. Soree.
On a happy note, I'm currently reading a memoir and so far enjoying it to bits!! Will share that once I'm done.

Pangkor Trip Pt 2

It took me forever to finish editing. Somehow the internet speed is quite slow.
So here are the photos of our first day in Pangkor Island Beach Resort. The resort is famous for its many hornbills. Nowadays you can see some addition to animal species and there are a peacock (it roams the place as if it owns it), a huge monitor lizard and monkeys. There were signs everywhere advising visitors to lock their balcony door if they are not in and to not feed the monkeys. I bumped into one when I was rushing back to the room to change. It was at a staircase leading to the 3rd floor. I was so scared but luckily managed to slowly backed my way down and a kind guy who was at the ground floor saw me and willing to accompanied me all the way to the third floor. By the time, we saw the monkey already joined its friends on the roof of the hotel. Phew!
Other than that, if I'm not looking after the kids at the pool or the beach, I would be reading my book or snoozing under the tree at the beach. Bliss.
